Flu Symptoms

The following list contains the most common symptoms of flu. This is true for all types of flu, including swine flu, bird (avian) flu and normal flu.

  1. A high temperature - in excess of 38°C or 100°F

  2. A headache

  3. Intense fatigue

  4. Sore throat

  5. Runny or blocked nose

  6. Muscular aches and pains

  7. A cough

  8. Gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhoea, feeling sick or being sick. These latter symptoms occur more commonly in children.

  9. You may experience other symptoms which are not in the above list, but you should keep a note of them and let your doctor know about them.

Most of the symptoms in the list are called "flu-like symptoms". Different illnesses, such as the common cold, have similar symptoms. However, with a common cold you will not feel as ill and incapacitated as you do with flu.
